WELCOME to the ALASKA HOME INSPECTORS FORUM
The FORUM associated with this website is the place to discuss issues concerning houses and other buildings in Alaska, especially as those issues pertain to home inspection. The licensed Alaska Home Inspectors and other members of this forum are also available to answer questions from anyone such as the condition of buildings, what to expect from a home inspection, how to maintain a home, building safety and energy efficiency.

This site was developed and is partially sponsored by the Alaska Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI).  The Alaska ASHI Chapter holds its monthly meetings on the 2nd Thursday at 9:00am at Jitters Coffee house in Eagle River Mall, 11401 Old Glenn Hwy.  Please RSVP to Jim Foss, President @ 522-2378 or email  Jim Foss  if you would like to attend.  Check the site calendar for updates.

 ANNOUNCEMENTS
13 Aug 2008 - MEETING WITH APPRAISERS

ASHI plans to give the Southcentral home inspectors an opportunity get together with the local appraisers to better understood the appraisers view on repair items. The goal is to have inspections that work with appraisals and provide a better service for the consumer and the real estate community. With this in mind, we believe a joint meeting with an open forum would be beneficial. Most inspectors do not understand that appraisers call different things depending on the type of appraisal they are doing.

We are in discussions with the appraisers about the format of a joint meeting on September 11th. As soon as we have more information we will update this announcement. What do you think? Lets try to discuss this at the August 14th ASHI meeting and come up with a list of items that we would like to discuss with the appraisers. Check the General Chit Chat section for a discussion of the Meeting with Appraisers.

Our plans are to have our ASHI September on the second Thursday with the meeting at O’Malleys on the Green at lunch time.

Jim Foss, ASHI Alaska President

A realtor told me yesterday that I was "the only one" calling out non-safety glazed windows being within 24" of a door swing. I was wondering if I am the only one.
